A YEAR OF FOREST SCHOOL

Winter 2023

It might be cold, and often damp and wet, but there's still lots to see and do at FS. If you listen you can hear bird song, (carrion crow and stalings we think), and sometimes a robin comes and joins us at the end of a session to see what we have churned up.

The children have enjoyed den building, playing with ropes and lots and lots of make believe. Everybody (including Paddington!), enjoyed making damper bread and of course, it was served with marmalade.

Autumn 2022

So far we have enjoyed blue skies, but the first signs of autumn are beginning to creep into our beautiful forest school area. Leaves are starting to turn and fall and seedheads on grasses and flowers scattering in the wind. However, there are still quite a few thistle flowers around and they provide a valuable source of nectar for solitary bees at this time of year - which the children have loved watching. And that is the great joy of FS - we do have tasks and skills that the children can join in, but on the whole, we are led by them, which means at this time of year they enjoy harvesting the apples, peeling and whittling the willow harvested from our trees and creative play in the dens they build.

As autumn turns into winter, we have found that all we need to get creative, learn and enjoy are sticks and muddy puddles! We have noticed a robin coming to join us at the end of sessions. We feel that he is taking an opportunity to see what tasty snacks we have uncovered when we have been running around and exploring our Forest School area.

Our Facebook page is regulary updated - so take a look there if you would like to see what we have been up to.

Muddy puddles, sticks and teamwork

Meet Remus.....

Charlotte and Justine Whitaker from Fuzzy Peg Fostering brought Remus to visit the children last year, and we were delighted when they came back a few week later with a fit and healthy Remus to be released into our FS area.

We haven't seen Remus since then, but we are taking that as a very good sign and we continue to find hedgehog poo around and about - hurray!
